Adrian Jones and Jessica Fightmaster easily could have become school dropout statistics in Roanoke.

Jones was an outstanding athlete in middle school with dreams of becoming a college or possibly professional basketball player. He was a power forward on the Roanoke Valley Jaguars boys' 12-and-under team that captured the state Amateur Athletic Union championship in 1995. The team traveled to Salt Lake City for the national tournament where it finished 12th.
