FLOOD PROJECT TO INCLUDE GREENWAY ROANOKE RIVER PROJECT'S GREENWAY WILL LINK SALEM, ROANOKE AND ROANOKE COUNTY

When Roanoke's long-discussed flood reduction project finally starts, a greenway will run all the way through it.

On the Roanoke River in Wasena Park on Monday, Rep. Bob Goodlatte, R-Roanoke, announced that a congressional committee recently authorized $64.3 million for the project - an increase of $21 million compared to cost estimates from just a year ago.

The increase includes about $8 million in new money for the greenway, as well as money for other project changes, including new flood control design and the rate of inflation, city officials said.
