The Girl Scouts of the USA is close to finalizing a massive and
unprecedented consolidation of the organization, local and national
officials say. Under the plan, Connecticut's five councils will
become one statewide council, while the number of councils nationwide
will be reduced to a third of what it is today, from 313, to about
100 to 120 over the next three to five years.
