"The Magic of Katherine Dunham"-the evening-long program Tuesday and Wednesday nights that will launch a week of performances by the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater at the Kennedy Center Opera House-is a testimonial from one charismatic dance personage to another. It's a tribute by Ailey, one of the greatest pioneers of black American dance, to Dunham, an equally great pioneer of an earlier era and a lifelong inspiration to Ailey.
