McFarlane Enters Guilty Plea Arising From Iran-Contra Affair; Former Reagan Adviser Withheld Information From Congress

Former national security adviser Robert C. McFarlane pleaded guilty yesterday to four misdemeanor charges that he withheld information from Congress about the Reagan administration's secret aid to the Nicaraguan contras during a two-year period when Congress had restricted U.S. military assistance to the rebels.

McFarlane became the first former Reagan administration official to plead guilty to criminal charges arising from the Iran-contra affair, the biggest political crisis of Reagan's presidency.
