Conspiracy Against Blacks? Sure, Why Not?

There aren't many things you can count on in these uncertain
times, but there is one. Let me make a speech before a black
audience and sometime during the Q&A someone is certain to ask if I
believe there is a conspiracy against black Americans.
It doesn't matter whether the subject is drugs or joblessness,
school failure or teen pregnancy, politics or immigration. I can
count on hearing some version of the conspiracy question. My habit
has been to answer no. Sometimes I take the approach that one
shouldn't embrace complicated explanations when simpler ones suffice.
