From time to time, Mikhail Gorbachev calls down to this city in southern Russia where he made his political name and asks for a batch of local newspapers. When he reads Stavropolskaya Pravda, the father of glasnost must wonder whether the old hometown has changed at all.

Stavropol is blessed, at least at the dinner table.
