Patrick J. Quinn could often be seen quietly reading his
newspaper on a park bench outside his Laurel apartment complex,
according to his neighbors, who knew the retired District police
officer as a gentle, unassuming man.
But 10 days ago, the neighbors unexpectedly got a more disturbing
