The Dachau Museum: A Remembrance Of Lives Past

It is still here. The barbed wire. The towers. The ovens.
Now, 56 years since it was first constructed, it sits largely
unchanged in this small Munich suburb. Dachau, a picturesque little
village built in terraces below a castle, is still home to the first
of all the German concentration camps.
No longer the factory of horror and death set up by Nazi leader
Heinrich Himmler in 1933, the Dachau camp was converted to a museum
in 1965. The former Nazi administration building and guardhouse have
been redesigned, and a theater has been added.
