Ford and Holden are set to dig deep into the family 4x4 wagon market segment this year, but Toyota shows that the Aussie brands won't have it all their way.

The arrival of Toyota's Highlander model at the end of last year couldn't have been better timed. It was an example of Japan's largest car-maker's immense reach and influence that the Highlander rolled into showrooms in New Zealand and Australia just in time to head off the much promised, but not-quite-here-yet Holden Adventra and Ford Territory crossover vehicles.
