Blind sheep lead search for cataract treatment

Blind sheep are about to become the focus of Canterbury research into the treatment of cataracts.

Scientists at Lincoln and Canterbury universities are collaborating on the research project which, if successful, could provide a non-surgical alternative for treating cataracts.

Cataracts are a cloudiness in the lens of the eye which prevents the passage of light, and is the main cause of blindness. One in three New Zealanders aged over 70 will need treatment for cataracts.
