Another north-south battle has begun in the meat industry. Directors of Southland's Blue Sky Meats yesterday recommended shareholders reject a takeover bid from Lowe Corporation, of Hawkes Bay.

The unlisted Blue Sky's plant at Morton Mains made a profit of $4.5 million on sales of $95.5m in its latest full year.

Lowe, whose background is in hides and skins, is offering 450c a share, compared with the 413-451c valuation range of independent adviser Polson Higgs & Co. The adviser...
