Poles Commemorate Warsaw Uprising
|
After years of private debate, Poles are now publicly addressing
the politically sensitive subject of the 1944 Warsaw Uprising, one of
the "blank spots" in Poland's 20th-century history that have divided
the Communist-led government from the political opposition.
A flood of books and articles, many of them written years ago by
survivors of the uprising, is appearing here for the first time.
There also has been a spate of television documentaries and
interviews on the uprising-a 63-day battle between a lightly armed
underground army and powerful German occupation forces that started
