Prado Forges Into Maryland Picture;Young Peruvian Rides Streak to Second Spot in Laurel Standings

Edgar Prado was 17 when he left Peru for a job in Miami. He
wanted to go, but when he got there he was lost.
"I didn't speak the language and I didn't know anybody," he said.
"I didn't even know how to say good morning. It was really hard in
the beginning. I didn't have a car and I didn't know how to take the
bus."
But Prado knew how to get around a racetrack, and even as a
teenager rode with a certain fluency. This much was communicated.
If trainers wanted to know anything else, Prado's agent would double
as interpreter.
