Bishops at war as worshipping flock flees

NEW ZEALAND'S largest church is marking Easter by attempting to crucify a bishop.

Anglican bishop Te Kitohi Pikaahu faces a church judicial committee hearing - which the bishop of Aotearoa says may precipitate his expulsion - over alleged deficiencies in his pastoral care.

Such action is believed to be unprecedented, overshadowing a reported $10,000 pay-out to a student allegedly subjected to racial slurs by another Maori bishop.

A preliminary finding is expected to be issued this week, but the more serious concerns involving Pikaahu are to be heard early next month.
