A great old bit of Washington gossip about William Wilson Corcoran and the nude statue, "The Greek Slave" by Hiram Powers, is worth remembering in the midst of the Corcoran Art Gallery's current controversy.

The Corcoran recently cancelled the Robert Mapplethorpe photographic exhibit because of concerns about its sexual content.
