Englewood teacher explores Japan's culture

A trip around the world may not be on most people's calendars, but thanks to the Japan Fulbright Memorial Fund teacher program, Brian Mays was recently able to explore a culture much different from his own.

Mays, who teaches gifted students at Englewood Elementary School in the Northmont school district, found the experience to be quite eye-opening.

The JFMF program allows primary and secondary school educators throughout the United States to travel to Japan for three weeks to promote intercultural understanding. From a pool of 2,500 applicants, Mays was among 200 educators selected. Upon ...
