Mink oil comes from minks, so you might guess that castor oil comes from Castor canadensis, or beavers. Although beavers are making a comeback to Ohio, castor oil isn't as prominent in the medicine cabinet as it once was.

My parents' generation seemed to have used it for just about every malady, but it's only been used once in my household.
