Leg 10 of our virtual Around-the-World journey is a short ferry
ride to the European mainland. Leg 10 of our real Around-the-World in
Ohio trek is a drive up U.S. 68 into Hardin County.
Both trips take us to Dunkirk.
Dunkirk, France, is most famous for the World War II evacuation of
more than 300,000 Allied troops pushed to the channel by the Germans.
That mission took 10 days, but you could evacuate 300,000 folks from
Dunkirk, Ohio, in a matter of hours, thanks to criss-crossing rail
lines and more than 1,500 semis a day on 68.
