It has taken history almost a third of a century to catch up
with the ideas of Milovan Djilas, the Yugoslav communist
revolutionary who once poured out his disillusionment with the
communist system in a classic expose.
Now that Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev makes many of the same
criticisms that landed Djilas in jail for his 1957 book "The New
Class," Djilas has slipped into the background, a prophet of
communist decay who has been vindicated in his time.
