Millions have come away from the film "Gorillas in the Mist" with a rosy glow of optimism over the fate of Africa's rare mountain gorillas. One of the final lines from the film even memorializes primate activist Dian Fossey as the savior of an entire species.

Hype surrounding the movie has even hinted that a chunk of its profits will eventually find their way, through Fossey's estate, to the conservation fund she founded more than a decade ago.
