Some fly Christian and U.S. flags, some choose not to

As flags go up around the area in preparation for Memorial Day, many churches already have flags in place. It's not uncommon to see both the U.S. flag and the "Christian" flag somewhere in the sanctuary.

Augsburg Lutheran Church in Orrville has both flags in its sanctuary, and the Rev. Barbara Holzhauser said they've been there for as long as she can recall.

"Each congregation determines for itself" whether or where to place the flags, she said, explaining the denomination doesn't mandate placement of flags.
