Grateful Belfast plans a proper thanks to MBNA

BELFAST - It will be a one-time, one-of-a-kind send-off, Mayor
Mike Hurley says of MBNA Appreciation Day scheduled for Saturday.
"It's sort of like a retirement party," he said Monday. "You
really only get one chance at it."
MBNA, the Delaware-based credit card lender, arrived in Maine in
Camden in 1993, expanded to Belfast in 1995, then to Rockland, Orono,
Brunswick, Portland, Farmington, Presque Isle and Fort Kent in the
late 1990s.
But nowhere did the company more dramatically change the face of a
community than in Belfast, a city whose economic base had been
anchored by poultry processing ...
