At a distance, state sees dots
|
BLOOMINGTON - Last June, Minnesota state officials drew 94
elliptical dots, spaced 225 feet apart, on the lanes of a two-mile
section of a highway near Minneapolis.
Accompanying roadside signs still tell drivers to stay two dots
away from the car in front of them. State officials say the dots and
signs explaining them are increasing the distances between some cars.
"The main idea here was to provide an educational tool for
motorists to identify what a safe following distance looks like,"
said Gordy Pehrson, traffic safety coordinator with the Minnesota
Department of Public Safety.
