Isamu Noguchi's Restless Vision;Exploring a Landscape of Opposites

In 1949 the sculptor Isamu Noguchi, not for the first time
disenchanted with the New York art world, with "the narrow outlook of
critics and dealers with their pet discoveries and pat judgments,"
applied for and received a Bollingen Foundation grant to conduct a
worldwide study on the subject of leisure, which he uniquely defined
as a "meditation on the meaning of form in relation to man and
space."
The intention was to write and publish a book, which wasn't done
although the artist always maintained that, someday, he would do it.
