Champaign schools favored; race for 3rd looks to be tight

Saturday's Big 12 Conference Swim Meet is billed as a single competition, but the six-team gathering boils down to a race for first and another for third.

Champaign Central is favored over two-time defending champion Champaign Centennial to win the annual meet, which begins with diving at 9 a.m. and swimming at 1:30 p.m. at Urbana's new pool.

The hotly contested race for third includes Bloomington, Normal Unit 5 and Urbana. BHS, fourth a year ago, has beaten Urbana and Normal in invitationals.

Normal, fifth a year ago, finished ahead of a flu-ravaged BHS squad in the Intercity Meet.
