DWIGHT - It has been decades since the Keeley Institute closed its doors, but Dwight and much of American culture remains under the influence of the first clinic in the country to treat alcoholism.

Established in 1879 by Dr. Leslie E. Keeley, the institute used groundbreaking methods to treat alcoholics and drug addicts.

As a surgeon during the Civil War, Keeley saw a number of soldiers with drinking problems. Why some people could drink alcohol without becoming alcoholics while others quickly became drunkards was a question that ate at Keeley when he returned to Dwight after the war.
