During the American Revolution, Thomas Paine issued an eloquent
call to action entitled Common Sense. A portion of it declared, "The
blood of the slain, the weeping voice of nature cries, 'TIS TIME TO
PART.' . . . O ye that love mankind! Ye that dare to oppose not only
the tyranny but the tyrant, stand forth!" Common Sense stirred the
colonists to action and was instrumental in launching the American
Revolution.
