Top-Seeded Gateway Christian Avoids Upset Gallup Catholic KOs No. 2 Elida

LOS LUNAS -- Wednesday's early quarterfinal games in the Class 1A state baseball tourney didn't go off without an upset. And there were almost two.

In the opener, top-seeded Gateway Christian survived a scare from Magdalena, but in the final game of the night, No. 2 Elida fell to Gallup Catholic.

In other games, fifth-seeded Cimarron beat fourth-seeded Mesilla Valley, and third-seeded Texico beat Peasco.

In today's semifinals, Gateway will play Cimarron today at 9 a.m. Texico will face Gallup Catholic at 12:30 p.m.
