More than a year-and-a-half after returning from Iraq, Maj. Patrick Campos still wonders whether he should have pulled the trigger.

He almost did. He was just the slightest pressure -- not much more than the brush of a moth's wing's worth -- from unloading his weapon into the four-door Nissan truck.

It was March 2004 and Campos, commander of the 720th Transportation Company, a New Mexico National Guard unit, was riding shotgun in a big Army rig south of Nasiriya in southern Iraq.
