Sze finds past, future fuel poetry "Quipu," poems by Arthur Sze Copper Canyon Press, $15, 101 pp.

Teaching pays the bills, but for Arthur Sze poetry is his love. And after he retires in May from teaching at Santa Fe's Institute of American Indian Arts, Sze will try to earn a living exclusively from doing poetry residences, visiting professorships and readings.

"In the last 10 years I have been making as much as a poet as teaching at the Institute, which is pretty amazing," he said in a phone interview from his Santa Fe home.

"So I've decided to freelance it and go my own way."

Sze has been a prolific poet, and his newest poetry collection is titled "Quipu."
