Vigil Resigns Legislature May Halt Impeachment Proceedings

State Treasurer Robert Vigil resigned Wednesday as a legislative subcommittee began considering evidence for his possible impeachment.

"I have committed no crime and the allegations made by the federal government are false," said Vigil, who has pleaded not guilty to what federal prosecutors describe as a state investment kickback scheme.

"I am determined not to allow the political process to violate my due process rights," Vigil said in his resignation letter.
