The original D'Oyly Carte Opera Company closed in 1982, but it
wasn't long before a bequest and a gift got the famed Gilbert and
Sullivan troupe back on the boards.
But if this is the beginning of one era, it is also the end of
another, according to Michael Bishop, who heads the new D'Oyly Carte
Opera.
"When we get back to England, we'll be getting ready to produce
operas other than Gilbert and Sullivan," Bishop said. "The D'Oyly
