VALAIS CANTON ENDS ITS MORATORIUM ON BUYERS

ELSEWHERE in Switzerland, the Valais canton has just announced the end of a 12-month moratorium on property sales that saw seven communes, including the popular ski areas of Grimentz, Nendaz and Veysonnaz, shut their doors to foreign buyers.

In its place a strictly managed quota system will be introduced, with only 330 properties sold to non-Swiss residents annually. Of those, half will go to touristic projects aimed at a rental market, 66 permits will go to buyers already awaiting permits, and the remainder a paltry 99 will go to new buyers.
