Steeplejack David going strong at 73
|
At the age of 73, you could be forgiven for thinking that
steeplejack David Dawson was ready to quit.
Instead, he is working on the 120 feet tall statue of the Cornish
explorer Richard Lemon Lander in Truro.
Mr Dawson said: "Every ten to 15 years we have to scale the
statue, which stands on the top of a 100 feet tall column, to treat
the lime.
"Steeplejacking is a job I have done all my life - I love it. The
first time I went up something really tall was with my dad when I
was four.
"The only time I get scared is when there is a large puff of wind
- that can be a bit worrying at times."
