Canning to give up CEO post at Madison Dearborn: Founding partner still chairman

John Canning Jr. said Monday he is stepping aside as chief
executive of Madison Dearborn Partners LLC but will remain as
chairman of the Chicago-based leveraged buyout firm.
Canning, 63, turned over the CEO reins to Paul Finnegan and
Samuel Mencoff, who helped him found the firm in 1992 overlooking
Madison Street and Dearborn. The change is part of a long-planned
succession, Canning said, and will let him focus on dealmaking
rather than day-to-day operations.
"Nitty-gritty management is something I was never good at,"
