'Hannibal Rising' explores a tired character; The prequel seeks to show how Lecter developed

Believe it or not, "Hannibal Rising" is the fifth movie to feature Thomas Harris' Hannibal Lecter character.

First there was "Manhunter," followed by "Silence of the Lambs," then "Hannibal." "Red Dragon," a remake of "Manhunter," came next - a project that was produced to let the great Anthony Hopkins do his thing one more time.

The first four films made more than $400 million at the box office, so the fact that this latest installment is showing on three screens in Dubuque should not come as a surprise. After all, if Rocky Balboa can come back for a sixth movie, Hannibal ought to be good for ...
