King George III caused his own downfall; The colonists had liked him at first

George William Frederick of the House of Hanover died, mercifully,
this week (Jan. 29) in 1820.
In America his passing caused a minor stir among the people, due
mostly to the fact that he was the last British monarch to rule over
them.
King George III, as he was more commonly known, died totally
blind, nearly deaf and completely insane, having suffered for years
from a blood disease that affected the brain.
It also was said that he died of a broken heart, having never
gotten over the loss of his American colonies.
Not that George doesn't deserve his share of the blame for that
