Agates are gemstones treasured for their unique stripes and
striations. They are chalecedony quartz that forms in concentric
layers in a wide range of colors and textures.
Each agate is formed when a cavity in a host rock is slowly
filled, creating concentric bands like tree rings, according to the
International Colored Gemstone Assocation.
