Ex-councilman Van Cleave charged with misusing public money

BALDWIN PARK - Prosecutors charged former Baldwin Park Councilman
Bill Van Cleave on Thursday with misusing public funds, the latest
chapter in a career marred by scandal. A grand jury returned an
indictment against Van Cleave on Sept. 26. It was unsealed Thursday,
according to the District Attorney's Office.
Van Cleave, 51, pleaded not guilty to five felony counts of
misappropriation of public funds. He was being held at the Men's
Central Jail in Los Angeles in lieu of $125,000 bail.
The indictment doesn't say how much Van Cleave spent between April
2003 and March 2005. But it alleges he ...
