Cuzco, the ancient capital of the Inca Empire

We were on the last leg of our Peruvian journey. We arrived back in Cuzco in the early evening and immediately checked into our hotel. The group of 20 hearty souls had fared well on their adventures in the Sacred Valley and in Machu Picchu. I was hoping they had become acclimatized and were now more prepared for the altitude of Cuzco 11,200 feet.

I usually dont spend a lot of time talking about accommodations, but the Hotel Monasterio is worth a paragraph by itself. Originally built in 1595 on the site of an ancient Inca Palace, the restored convent was converted into a hotel in 1995. ...
