HALFWAY BETWEEN Richmond and Williamsburg stands a Georgian Revival plantation house that envelops you in history. Though the house was built in 1937, the plantation dates to the Colonial period and was the scene of fighting during the Civil War.

On the banks of Herring Creek and the James River, Evelynton has been in the Ruffin family since 1847. Originally part of William Byrd II's Westover plantation during the Colonial period, the Evelynton estate - 860 acres and a frame house - was named for Byrd's daughter, Evelyn, intended as her dowry.
