Menes decides to retire

Pauline Menes, at 81 the longest continuous-serving member of the House of Delegates, has decided not to seek another term after nearly four decades in office.

"It's time," said Mrs. Menes, D-College Park. "All good things come to an end. It was a very tough decision, but I thought it was the right thing to do, and the right time to do it."

For the last four years, she has served in a redrawn district that includes Laurel, Russett and Piney Orchard in Anne Arundel County. She was known among her colleagues as an unabashed liberal who fought for social justice and paved the way for women ...
