Elevators at 2 Metro Stations In Habit of Trapping Riders; Mechanic Assigned to Woodley Park Full Time

Elevators at the Woodley Park-Zoo and Cleveland Park Metro stations frequently break down and trap passengers, officials said yesterday, another sign of the transit agency's problems in maintaining elevators and escalators.

Transit officials said the problems at both stations have been fixed. But Metro has assigned a mechanic to the Woodley Park station to monitor the elevator there because the electronic system that controls the elevator's stopping and starting frequently breaks down.
