OBITUARIES; Sir W. Arthur Lewis, Nobel Laureate, Dies

Sir W. Arthur Lewis, 76, co-winner of the 1979 Nobel Prize for economics and professor emeritus of political economy at Princeton University, died June 15 at his home in Barbados.

A Princeton University spokesman said he had been in declining health after recent treatment for pneumonia and a broken hip.

Dr. Lewis shared the 1979 Nobel Prize with Theodore Schultz. They were cited in the award "for their pioneering research into economic development research with particular consideration of the problems of developing countries." The Swedish Academy went on to say that both men were "deeply ...
