THE Conservative MP Nick Hurd has launched an attempt to give people a greater say in challenging how central government funding is spent in their local communities.

Mr Hurd's Sustainable Communities Bill also allows councils, after detailed consultation with local people, to work out their own alternative local spending plan and to allocate that public spending in their area in a different way.
