Heritage plaques honour Victorian artist

HERITAGE plaques are to be erected at two locations associated with the Victorian artist William Powell Frith in advance of a major exhibition of his work.

The first large scale Frith exhibition in over 55 years is being held at the Mercer Art Gallery in Harrogate with over 100 paintings, prints and drawings on show from March 24.

It will include Frith's three iconic "modern life" panoramas - Life at the Seaside (Ramsgate Sands), loaned by the Queen; Derby Day from the Tate and The Railway Station from the Royal Holloway College, University of London.
