The treasure that met its Waterloo to go on show

HE was known as the "bravest of the brave" and was rewarded with a
gold and enamel snuffbox by Napoleon Bonaparte.
Now the box given to Napoleon's favourite general, Marshal Michel
Ney, after the disastrous Russian campaign of 1812, is to be
exhibited in North Yorkshire.
It will be permanently displayed in the Green Howards Regimental
Museum in Richmond, following the decision to amalgamate the 1st
Battalion to form the new Yorkshire Regiment.
The snuffbox, made by renowned Parisian goldsmith Pierre-Andre
Montauban in 1797, is one of only two known to have survived out of
five ...
