NEW options for the future of policing in Yorkshire have been announced by South Yorkshire force chiefs, and will now be considered by the Home Office.

All four Yorkshire forces - South, North, West and Humberside - have suggested a merger to produce a "superforce" covering the whole region, following an announcement by Home Secretary Charles Clarke that he wanted to cut the number of police forces from the current 43 to a maximum of 25.
