Patrolling streets 'has cut robberies'

HIGH-VISIBILITY police patrols had a dramatic effect on levels of robbery in Hull city centre, new research by the Home Office reveals.

During a [Pounds]1m iniative to put more high-visibilty patrols on the street, levels of recorded "personal" robbery fell by 16 per cent - compared to an increase of five per cent elsewhere in the Humberside Police Force area.

Nationally, personal robbery increased by 15 per cent.
